I was SO happy this past weekend. The rain cleared away leaving some pretty cool clouds over the lake, and these two brothers let me steal a few photos. I have to say, photographs came in a distant third after throwing rocks and an ever present i-pod! In the end you all were super cool to work with. Thank guys, I had a ton of fun.

It was an absolutely gorgeous September morning when I got to meet this tiny one for the first time. She is beautiful, so so tiny, actually just perfect, and boy did she give us all a run for our money, almost the entire 3 hours! And then right at the end, all snuggled right up with her mom she fell into the most peaceful sleep. Well ok, until big sister came in a couldn’t resist her!
Thanks again for having me and I can’t wait to show you the rest. See you next week!

While I was looking over my blog a few nights ago and thinking about what more I could say, what more I could offer. I came across this amazing article and thought I would share.
I’ve always decorated our home with images of my girls and our family. When we were in Whitehorse I hung a wall gallery of our family so that my eldest could see all the family she did not get to visit on a regular basis. I always want my girls to know who they are, where they come from, and that they are loved by so many. Now I come to read it’s good for their self-esteem too!!
“Decorating with your children’s photos can do more than add warmth and beauty to a home, it can actually enhance your child’s self-esteem. In the book “The Magic of Encouragement: Nurturing Your Child’s Self-Esteem” author and psychotherapist Stephanie Marston suggests placing two images of a child next to the child’s bed. One should show the child happily involved in an activity that they enjoy (playing a musical instrument or being involved in a sport), and the other should show the family together (parents and child nurturing each other or playing together). These images of your child being empowered and being loved will be “the last thing they see before they go to sleep and the first thing they see when they wake up. Images speak louder than words, so these photos can be a great benefit to a child’s development.” Stephanie Marston To read more of her article visit http://www.stephaniemarston.com
Now I don’t know Mrs. Marston or her work in general but I do know that I like empowering my little ones. The more self-esteem I can help my girls build the better.
In the future you can find this and more posts like it in the “Good To Know!” Category.

Ok I know the kids just started back at school and it isn’t even Halloween yet but I have to say it. If you are even contemplating getting portraits for the Holidays or sending Holiday cards you may just want to plan ahead.
The deadline for ordering Holiday Cards to guarantee they get to you in time to mail for the holidays is November 1st. And the deadline for ordering prints and canvas’ in time to hang or give is November 15th!
SO that means I only have 4 Saturdays available to book,
September 13,
September 27 (On-location only),
October 4 and
October 18! That’s it! Holy Moly this year went fast.
Also, if you have had a session within this past year, call me and we can talk about using one of your chosen images as this years Holiday Card.
Oh and check back later this week to see some of the fantastic new Holiday Card designs we have.
Ok I can’t wait, this is my favourite…

And you thought grown ups didn’t play tag?!!
I have been tagged by my good friend Angela K (thanks Angela). The rules are as follows:
RULES:
1. Link the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them & leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they have been tagged.
Hmm 6 unspectacular quirks eh?
1. I’m Canadian too!
2. I am love trashy complicated well written period romance novels.
3. I need to have all the food in my cupboards lined up neat and tidy with the labels facing forward. Now I don’t alphabetize them, that would just be too quirky.
4. I love love love the smell of clean line dried laundry.
5. I have a taste of chocolate hidden in about half a dozen different places. Yes I am an addict.
6. hmmm, Oh I know! I’ve moved 22 times in my life, living everywhere from London to Manitoulin Island to Whitehorse and back.
Ok now to get the others…

What a way to spend a gorgous summer day! Down by the lake at their family cottage is the perfect setting for some fantastic lifestyle portraits.
While moms and dads were off biking and relaxing on the dock I marched the kids off into the bush! I have to say these kids were so amazing to photograph. They had a blast hamming it up for the camera and joking around with each other. It was hilarious to see!
So much fun we’ll have to do it next year!

Seriously, you just have to take one look at that huge smile to see his happy, larger-than-life personality! He was so good, went along with everything mommy and I wanted and then happily went on his way when we were done. Happy 6 months little man!!

Just look at this beautiful first time mom-to-be. We had an evening session scheduled and we made it to the beach just in time to catch some gorgeous golden sunset light. That evening light just makes her literally glow! Wait until you see the others!
After the sunset we came into the studio for some more formal images and then this second one…something just a bit different. And I absolutely love it! It’s funny we created so many fabulous images that night we were both laughing at how excited I was getting.
Now I’m even more excited for both of you to see the rest of these. I can’t wait to meet your new little man too.
