Accreditation | Professional Photographer

To become a “professional photographer” in Canada there are really no rules and no guidelines. If you have a camera and a declaration then you can be a ‘professional’ photographer. It’s literally harder to become a nail technician at your local nail shop then it is to be a photographer. To me that’s disturbing.
These days, we work harder than ever for every dollar we make. When I hire someone (a contractor, a nail technician, a photographer) I really want to know I am hiring the right person. A person who knows what they are doing, who has proven results and who can guarantee I am not going to waste my money. No matter if it’s $40 for a nail fill or $5000 for photographs or $50 000 for a new kitchen, I can’t take the chance it’s not going to work out.
The Professional Photographers of Canada “is a diversified group of creative artists dedicated to the highest standards in professional imaging.” Their vision is to “be Canada’s leader in developing and maintaining the highest level of photographic excellence.” There are other association such as this around the world, PPA in the United States, or the AAPP in Australia etc. They are all dedicated to bringing quality and excellence to the photographic community globally.
I am honoured to announce that I have earned my second accreditation with the Professional Photographers of Canada this past Monday in the category of Child and Infant Portrait. Below are the images that were submitted for judging. Those of you who know me know I am a pretty passionate person, and when I talk about the impact portraiture has on our lives I always get choked up. Then when I think of my families that have trusted me with their children, their lives, their history it’s even more moving. In my quest to touch, move and inspire people through their own imagery they have given me more than I could have ever imagined for. A simple thank you is all that I have but not nearly enough.
